Desktop Virtualization for Testing Purposes Only?

I am curious if anyone else is doing desktop virtualization for the sole purpose of testing intergration and software releases as they relate to a corprate desktop etc?

We currently have a project where we have over 150 Virtual machines running XP and our corporate desktop and then deploy software builds of win32 software to each virtual machine via landesk. The goal of the machines is to test intergration as well as load test back end servers. The information received from running the corporate desktop has led the more discoveries than just the software we deploy but also OS settings and other software that caused problems. We were then able to make changes to the corp desltop image such that we saved countless user problems and especially those remote office deploys. Trying to redeploy a corp image out to China or Africa has proven to be difficult at best. Customs is another topic entirely when shipping hardware.
