vmplayer productive environment

The need:

Ability to run an Application developed for Windows XP under Windows Vista in a Customer

productive Environment (not for test purposes, for productive use) without to do extra development

(which would be necessary to run directly under vista) , without costs for virtualisation Tools .

Question:

Is it a good idea to use vmplayer for this purpose ? The Application will have some Network

Communication with other Maschines in his lokal Network and uses Timers. If not why ?

Would virtualbox or another virtualisation Tool be better ?

Re: vmplayer productive environment

I say, "why not". Do it.

If it works, then you have a cheap solution. If it does not, then you now have justification to upper management to try the paid version.

The other good thing coming out of this is that you will only need to virtualize it once. As a vm, you can bring it along with you on a thumbstick, usb harddrive, or such. There is no change if you have to try it workstatoin. Lastly, the starter kit version of converter will allow you to virtualize it to an enterprise setup.

Which reminds me. You can also use the 3i route. That way, it is still free.

Good luck.
