Microsoft Hyper-V released -- buzz-worthy?

Definitely a 1.0 product, but might prove to eat away at VMware, Citrix/Xen and others.

Re: Microsoft Hyper-V released -- buzz-worthy?
This RTM release (actually 1-2 years behind schedule) was made to look like they were early out before a self-imposed deadline of August. In doing so, they had to leave out some known features.

They still have no answer for VMotion and this release has limited guest OS support (Windows Server 2008 & 2003, Windows Vista SP1, Windows XP SP3)

I have not had a chance to eval yet, but I look forward to anyone's review that has.

Re: Microsoft Hyper-V released -- buzz-worthy?
I've been reading many articles and blogs regarding the validity of claims and benchmarks around the Hyper-V release. There are many opinions out there, so only time will tell....

Here's an interesting commentary by Chris Wolf on a storage benchmark from QLogic/Hyper-V:
"To me, these exercises in smoke and mirrors trickery (i.e. solid state storage in a hypervisor storage performance "benchmark") yield more questions than answers... if you are going to go as far as issuing a press release based on a "benchmark," please give us an honest assessment of a real world environment. Anything else simply casts doubt on your future performance numbers"

And another interesting entry with feedback on networking issues:

Re: Microsoft Hyper-V released -- buzz-worthy?

Attended a high performace computing seminar in March 08 using Win2k8 w/ Hyper-V in a cluster.

Great speed on calculating PI, but what a mess to get in work with server OS that cold be rolled out on demand for more power.....

Guess - what I am migrating all my customers after I tried that....

NOT, HYPER but - WMWARE Starter for small biz, and VM 3i, VC on server farms.

MSFT is giving you a new fat HYPER SERVEROS where you really want power really from barebone.

Drop Hyper V and install W2K8 64bit as you need using VMware ESX..
