Re: 3PAR, EqualLogic...
There are a number of storage vendors going after the green market. As you might expect, not all solutions are created equal. We feel that we (Compellent) have a more comprehensive superior solution. Let me list just some of the major points:
- We have a philosophy of "Design for Persistence". A customer buying the smallest entry level configuration can expand that configuration on site to the largest without having to dispose of any earlier software and hardware purchases.
- Our form of virtualization extracts maximum performance from all drives by spreading all volumes across all drives. No hot spots exist without this technique. Being able to utilize significantly less spindles contributes to the green effect.
- Our "fine grain" implementation of Thin Provisioning maximizes our storage utilization.
- Thin Import advantages importation of data from thick provisioned foreign systems
- Thin Provisioning Space Recovery recovers unused space from released files in a Windows environment
- Continuous fine grain tracking of block level utilization permits us to automatically move data blocks between RAID levels and tiers of storage without user intervention. This is a Compellent exclusive maximizing our green benefits while being the envy of every other storage competitor.
- Our ability to recover any snapshot instantaneously without cloning maximizes our utilization.
- The boot from SAN capability enables multiple boot volumes (unlimited) to reference a single instance of the boot image.
- The intuitive user interface guides ordinary IT administrators through the complexities of configuring and managing storage without requiring training.
- Our users continually benefit from the addition of new features and benefits with every software version thus preserving their original investments.
