IS AMD CPU compatible with 64 bit

I would like to know is AMD good choice when it comes to virtualization.

Hi, AMD started AMD64 before Intel did which is compatiable with 32 bit as 64 bit applications. Intel did start IA64 x64 only with servers, but they are discontinuing it. Intel came up later with EMT64 I believe which is compatible with AMD64 since there IA64 failed to be received by desktop and laptop vendors. So AMD was the first CPU for desktops and laptops with 64 bit computing.
