Communication between Guest and Host

Hi,

My host OS is WindowsXP professional, I

have created 2 guests (WindowsXP Professional and Windows2003

Enterprise edition).

My PC is standalone PC (not even

connected with  Internet).

1) I am not able to ping my host

machine from XP Host( I am getting the message as request timed out).

But I am able to ping the XP guest from my host machine(getting

replies from Host XP).

2)In case of Windows 2003 guest, I am

not able to ping either way (from guest to host or from host to

guest. I am getting the message "request could not be find

host")

I want to try server & client

concepts. My license server will be one guest and  client is going to

be the host and (or) other guest.

For the guest I am using the Host only

networking option. I tried the Bridge option also where I am not able

to establish the connection.(I just tried this option. I just

selected this option, I dont' know the procedure)

I am able to share files (like copy and

paste)

MY REQUIREMENT IS BOTH GUEST AND HOST

HAS TO PING WITH EACH OTHER.

Anyone tried this option, kindly help

me to solve this issue.

Pls post the procedure or send it to

gd_ganesh@mailcity.com

Thanks & Regards,

Ganesh.

Re: Communication between Guest and Host

What VMware products do you use?  VMware workstation or Server 2.0?  You have several options to make the network connected using neither bridge, NAT, hosted or custom vmxnet1-8.  Make sure you have valid TCP/IP settings for your guest machines and the network card is connected by chance.

I would edit vmxnet8 or something and specify IP address for 192.168.10.x same to your guest.  You can have multiple network adapter for your guests too.  many networks as you like.

hope it helps.
