Re: Who's planning to attend VMworld 2009 in San Francisco?

I will be heading to SF this year.  This will be my 3rd vmworld, so I am a alumni now...yippee!!!

This is the only conference I attend annually and can't wait for this one.  I think there is a lot coming down this year and can't find better ways to optimize our virtual environment.

I would love to more so with the release of  vSphere I think there will be a lot of exciting products and discussions.  I cannot say for sure yet but I am watching the space.

I'll be there.   This will be my second time attending the conference.

Another co-worker will also be coming.  It'll be his 5th time attending a VMworld conference.

Re: Who's planning to attend VMworld 2009 in San Francisco?

I'll be there for the second time (first time in 2007).  Hopefully, I'll get to bring the wife, take a few extra days and do a little sightseeing also.  Last time we had only been using VI3 for about 6 months so I crammed a lot into that week -- and almost reached burnout.  Plus, with some folks limiting their travel, perhaps I'll have better luck getting lab time -- too bad for them but great for me .  The 2007 information was very useful and educational -- we modified our environment a little after I got back -- and I'm excited to see how VI4 can add to our production capabilities.  I think thin provisioning will be huge for us -- we're always fighting the space issues on our SANs.

We're also exploring thin computing and application virtualization as a way to improve desktop and application management, control costs of desktop life-cycle replacements, and improve our desktop DR capabilities -- so leave me a space in those labs please.

Re: Who's planning to attend VMworld 2009 in San Francisco?

Purchased my pass, looking forward to it. Will be my first time there.  Hoping to attend some of the instructor led labs, as well as the self paced labs.  As well looking to find it more about vsphere with it's current release, upgrading my servers very shortly.

Any recomendations on hotels I am considering the Westin on Market street seems to be pretty central and within the bosses budget.

Re: Who's planning to attend VMworld 2009 in San Francisco?

Well my request was finally approved while I was on vacation, so I will be attending. This will be the first time I go, let alone anyone from my company. I will try to attend anything I can of course and make the most of it. Looking forward to it!

Re: Who's planning to attend VMworld 2009 in San Francisco?

I'm in the same boat, my employer does not have the budget to send me, but I still plan on attending.  It seems to be really valuable, from the people I have talked with who have attended in previous years.  I opted not to go last year (when they could pay), and I think it was a big mistake.

I'm still trying to figure out the hotel, I want to stay close to the Moscone Center, but $259 bucks a night seems on the high side.  Did anybody get good rates at hotels close to the conference center, in the 150-200 range?

Re: Who's planning to attend VMworld 2009 in San Francisco?

Mr Woodland,

Perhaps you have already visited this page, but try starting at http://vmworld.com/community/conferences/2009/hotel-travel/.  Scroll down to the map, zoom in towards the conference center and look up numbers of hotels within the vicinity of Moscone, in the table above.

#12, Pickwick Hotel, $169

#38, Mosser Hotel, $159

#11, Powell Hotel, $139

Also, if you click the number in the map, it will show you the distance to the venue.  Hope this helps.

Regards,

TL

I just registered.  Also, i booked an advance room at the Hilton Financial District for 135 a night.  Gotta get those Honors Points!  it seems to be about 1.5 miles from the center though.

Re: Who's planning to attend VMworld 2009 in San Francisco?

I'll be there.  Traveling from Cleveland, OH.

My company has a Storage & Virtualization Services team, and a number of us are attentding.  I have duties that cross sales and implementation duties, so I'll likley be quite busy at the show.

As the technical team lead, my plans are to attend a couple of the technical sessions, and to take advantage of as many of the sales/marketing/technical presentations as I can.

Re: Who's planning to attend VMworld 2009 in San Francisco?

Yup... I'll be there, just like last year

Seriously, VMworld is the only conference I make time for any more. Synergy has really become "Rah Rah Citrix Conference" and most of the Microsoft conferences are talking about technologies that have been done better by others years ago. I don't have time for that... I like that VMworld is a dynamic and fun conference where I still manage to take a lot of valuable information back home. It was at least in part because of last year that we implemented Lab Manager and are looking seriously at Site Recovery Manager for 2010/2011 projects. Who knows what I'll find to spend our money on this year
