Re: Upgrade ESX 2.5 to ESX 3.x

Hi,

It is very easy to update ESX 2.5 to ESX 3.x.

My guide is:

1) make a backup copy

2) start the server from the cd ESX 3.x

3) follow the instructions and choose to upgrade.

4) it is important not to delete the existing VM.

It's that simple. My recommendation is that the swap memory is at least 1 Gb. -Find professional help to change this parameter, or there is a new installation without removing the filesystem /vmware-.

Regards.

Re: Upgrade ESX 2.5 to ESX 3.x

Thats a risky procedure if the upgrade goes wrong, best procedure to be safe is to create a separate 3.5 installation and manage the 2.5 boxes from the new VC2.5 then do a DMotion or cold migration of the old VM's to the new infrastructure

After this step you will need to upgrade virtual hardware and power on and install new VMware tools
