Hello all,
I have a question that I could not find anywhere by googling, so I'm writing it here hoping to receive answers from experienced ESXi users.
My question is that whether ESXi is suitable for high load VoIP applications (like asterisk, freeswitch, voipswitch, mera switch etc.) or not?
We have installed ESXi into a Intel dual quad cores 2.5GHz 8GB RAM 2 Gbps NI server, and installed windows server 2008 on top of ESXi, then we installed voipswitch on it. For now the switch is handling max 50 calls and the quality is OK. I know from experience that if the Windows 2008 is installed directly to the hardware, there will be no problem for handing 500calls. What I don't know is how Windows running on ESXi would handle 500 calls. There are two possible issue that I see:
1. Networking performance: whether the ESXi vSwitch is fast enough to switch 12Mbps without significant delay (how many ms delay ESXi would add in this case)?
2. CPU performance: whether ESXi will give enough CPU throughput to not delaying processing of calls session?
I really appriciate your answers/discussion.
