ESXi with multiple networks

Hi,

I have a server, switch and router for training purpose. If I install 2 (or more) virtual machines with different networks config, how can i have connection between them. I know router on the stick and VLAN but the real network connection go to the switch via one single port so I cannot VLAN the switch.

Any idea or discussion welcome.

Re: ESXi with multiple networks
Your question is a little confusing on the wording, but I think this is what you want...

Instead of port-based VLANs, use 802.1Q (VLAN tagging) and then you can have as many VLANs on a single NIC and switchport as you want. I'm sure this is what you are looking to do.

Your switches and NIC need to support "dot1q" but you shouldn't have a problem with modern hardware.

Re: ESXi with multiple networks

That is one of the most popular uses for it, yes, so that the VOIP VLAN(s) and the data VLAN can be available on the same NIC.

As long as your switch and NIC support it, you just setup your vSwitches in ESX/ESXi with the VLAN ID you want it to be associated with and that should be it.
