->8<- go karts?   They must be kidding.    Well, uh, unless they're 100 passenger go karts.

I think it is in a way funny that a company that sells itself and having products to help you "go green" is having a party themed around car racing. I suppose all the virtual machines will carbon-offset all the fuel that will be burned for our entertainment...lol

Re: VMWorld 2008 Las Vegas Party Thread

I'm told that it's a full track, and that if you wait in line, you will be able to race a real race car around the track. There will be other things like be a "pit" person and other race class stuff.  For the less serious, there will be drinks, music, gocarts, gaming and the like.  But, the point of this place is to allow people to experience a real race track up close.

For me, I will be in line, I always wanted to take a big engine around the track. This explains why the party ticket for guests is so high.

I am very very green myself, my house is powered by wind  (Palo Alto Green Program) I have Solar Panels as well and I live 3 miles from work (Yup I ride my bike).  Next year I will be all over the plugin Toyota, so from my perspective the only time I want to use oil is for specialty items.   The track for me, is one of those times!

Now where did I put my  electric jet?   Caron foot print to Vegas, not so good. =)

I'd love to drive a stock car around the track.  I'm guessing most people will spend the majority of time in line for one given the size of the conference...

A buddy of mine went on one of those sometime back, and I think he got to drive the car, but had to go through some sort of training class first.

So I think you are right on the money!  I would bet you get to be a passenger in the car.  And I also bet there will be a long line as you said.

Get there early?  Haha.

Are these 3 parties the only ones going on? I want to know if anybody is having a party on Thursday night. I don't leave until Friday morning so I want to party Thursday night.

I can't believe they are going to have alcohol and go-karts. This should be funny. Oh wait, we are responsible professionals, I forgot.

Re: VMWorld 2008 Las Vegas Party Thread

I asked this exact question, and was told that indeed you will be able to drive on the track, in a real car.  I have no idea if they have them governed so they only hit a certain speed, like 50mph or something safe.  But I was told that indeed you could get out on the track driving.  In fact that was "one" of the big appeals of this place.

I have no idea how they accomplish this,  but they could have 20 cars and then let a set of people do 5 minutes on the track.  That would be 20 x 10 per hour = 200 people,  which would only get  mayb 800 people through for an evening.  So yea, it I expect a lot of waiting would be involved best case.

But there are other things to do obviously, so it will be limitted to those who really really want to.

Re: VMWorld 2008 Las Vegas Party Thread

I heard today they would have 60-70 cars... and they would have a way to test to see if people were drinking. =).

I'm trying to confirm this.

Re: VMWorld 2008 Las Vegas Party Thread

Thanks for the information and updates on this...this is sounding uber-cool   I suppose they'll have a breathalyzer or something...which is fine by me, since I don't usually drink.  Driving really fast** is more fun for me

    • Err...in video games, of course, never in real life...I always obey the speed limit...

Does anyone have any more info on the International Beer Tasting?

I did not hear about that until reading this post.

I am a former brewer just stuck in an IT job presently figuring out how to virtualize beer.
