VMworld 2015 Breakout Sessions

VMworld features expert-led sessions for any skill level—whether it’s your first year or your tenth. With more than 400 unique sessions to choose from, along with countless hands-on labs, workshops, group discussions, and booth demonstrations, there’s no limit to the combination of learning opportunities available.

Start planning your VMworld schedule when the Content Catalog opens on June 23. Plan your schedule by viewing the list of available sessions and labs. When the Schedule Builder opens on July 21, you can actually pre-register for sessions if you are a registered, full-conference attendee. As sessions fill up quickly, we recommend you choose and pre-register for sessions as soon as possible.

Content Catalog
The Content Catalog is published on June 23 and is available to the public. It is the comprehensive list of breakouts, labs, and group discussions. Registered attendees and prospective attendees alike use the catalog to see what topics will be on the agenda, who is speaking, and to start noting their “sessions of interest.”

Schedule Builder
The Schedule Builder is published once the sessions are actually scheduled. It is only available to registered, full conference attendees who are able to view a complete listing of scheduled sessions, pre-register for sessions, and start building out their personal schedules for the week. Please note: as some sessions fill up quickly, we recommend you pre-register for sessions at your earliest convenience.

Research the agenda early
Content is the #1 reason people come to the conference. The average attendee attends 10 breakout sessions at VMworld, not to mention labs, workshops, group discussions, and 1:1’s with experts. Sessions tend to fill up quickly when the Schedule Builder launches in July (and August for Europe); while we try our best to repeat popular sessions, it’s a good idea to plan ahead and sign up early.

Hands-on Labs at VMworld - Overview

The VMware Hands-On Labs demonstrate the real value of VMware solutions in real time. VMworld attendees gain special access to the latest VMware technologies without requiring the purchase of equipment, software, or licenses. Attendees explore topics such as the Software-Defined Data Center, Enterprise Mobility, and the Hybrid Cloud with a VMware-provided keyboard or their own device, and experiment in the lab for 60-90 minutes. Product experts are on hand to provide one-on-one guidance. After a successful run of the lab, the environment is reset to a fresh state for the next participant.

Hands-on Labs Connect
New for VMworld 2015, Hands-on Labs Connect is a pre-lab experience that will give attendees access to Hands-on Labs product experts without enrolling in a workshop or taking a lab at a traditional workstation. Users can bring their own devices and questions to focused content stations where discussions will center on various topics of interest. Each station will be staffed by VMware experts who are eager to discuss, whiteboard and go through the labs with you.

Expert-led Workshops (ELW)
Our Expert-Led Workshops (which take place in the Hands-On Labs) provide intimate access to VMware product experts in an engaging instructional environment. This is a great opportunity to interact with the people who built the labs and know our products best. Join us to get your questions answered and discuss solutions in a group setting. To attend an Expert-Led Workshop, you must sign up in advance through the VMworld Schedule Builder tool.

Self-paced Labs (SPL)
Self-Paced Labs are our popular standard service where you can interact with the latest VMware products at your own pace at a traditional workstation. These labs are delivered on a first-come, first-served basis and do not need to be scheduled in advance.

Welcome New Hands-on Labs Users
We have targeted specific hands-on labs content for users new to VMware products. These lab topics are designated with the terms “101” or “from A to Z” in the title. If you’re new to the labs, be sure to start here. Don’t forget that “Lightning” Lab modules may be as short as 15 minutes and all content is modular. We hope you’ll find an open spot in your schedule to drop by the labs.

Get your HOL Achievement Badges by Taking Labs at Partner Exchange and VMworld
Something new for Partner Exchange and VMworld this year is the ability to take a Hands-on Lab and have it count toward your Partner University credits, Leaderboard standing, and 2015 VTSP Accreditations! Just take any lab in the exclusive Hands-on Lab catalog and your account in Partner University will be reflected to display your credits.  Your achievement badges status will be updated within 10 business days after Partner Exchange.

Lab Modules
Lab modules organize Hands-On Lab content into consumable units of 15-60 minutes. We are including hours of bonus material to allow VMworld attendees to choose the content that is most compelling for them. Each lab topic contains one or more modules with 1-7 hours of content. Lab sessions are still 90 minutes per sitting, so you will want to identify the modules that you are most interested in before you take the lab. You can always take the same lab a second time if you want to explore all of the modules.

Our Product Experts
The heart and soul of the Hands-on Labs program is the dynamic interaction between product users, great content and product experts. We will have almost 300 experts on site to answer any and all questions around our products and solutions. Our passion for delivering Hands-On Labs runs deep and we hope you’ll take advantage of the opportunity to stop by.
