Session Title:

Virtualizing Oracle RAC

Session Abstract:

Don Sullivan and VMware experts will present the required best practices and step by step guide for virtualzing Oracle 11gR2 RAC on VMware vSphere Platform.  The successful design, management and monitoring of virtual infrastructures is the key to the virtualization of Oracle environments.  These techniques were successfully implemented by VMware internally which will be discussed. Storage and networking design options will be discussed.  Attendees will listen to lessons learned from actual VMware PSO consultants, recipes for success and common mistakes to avoid when virtualzing RAC Databases.  Attendees will also learn how to live migrate oracle RAC nodes from one physical host a different host within the ESX cluster when under load with minimal impact to the users. The necessary skills that a DBA will need to have to refer to themselves as a v-RAC DBA and why that designation will be so important in the relatively near future will be discussed.  The presentation will conclude with a recorded RAC vMotion Demo and, time permitting, a demo of the expansion of a RAC cluster by adding a new node from a template previously created.
