Session Title:

From NT4.0 to Virtualized Desktops and Applications

Session Abstract:

VMware is noted for solutions at the enterprise level. There are numerous stories regarding several hundred servers being virtualized but, Legal Aid is a medium sized business with limited funds and IT staff. I would like to share how we found that using VMware was not only affordable but help us save time way beyond our expectations. This document is focused on the implementation and benefits of virtual desktop and virtual applications at Legal Aid, but it also shows that smaller companies and non-profits can benefit from the same robust solutions the larger companies enjoy.
The benefits of using ThinApp have been amazing. Instead of individually deploying an application upgrade on 300 machines, a process that could take days, we can use ThinApp to push it out to all the machines in just an hour or two. There's hardly even a need to visit remote PCs to deploy applications anymore. By virtualizing utilities and copying them out to the workstations, we saw immediate results from ThinApp. This solution has reduced our travel to our remote offices, for software install, by 90%.
