Session Title:

Best Practices for Managing and Monitoring Storage in vSphere

Session Abstract:

In today?s IT environment, systems administrators must balance competing goals: finding ways to scale and consolidate their environment, while at the same time decreasing the management overhead required to provision and monitor resources. Virtualization provides the answer to this challenge.
Provisioning storage for a virtual environment requires navigating several layers of abstraction, making it desirable to view this as a stack in order to follow the complete path successfully
The purpose of this session is to define the best practices that can help trace the route through this complex set of dependencies of the storage topology at the lun, datastore and virtual disk levels in vSphere. We will also define best practices for provisioning physical storage and use it efficiently for virtual machines. We will recommend best practices for monitoring and troubleshooting storage with vCenter and additional tools like esxtop. We will also provide a glimpse of the future of storage monitoring and troubleshooting.
