Session Title:

Avoiding the hurdles in scaling Lab Manager

Session Abstract:

This session reviews the steps Electronics for Imaging (EFI) took towards a mature Lab Manager deployment as well as the challenges EFI had to overcome to provide software engineers with a scalable test automation infrastructure.
EFI eliminated a home-grown system of remote controlled power switches, Norton Ghost images and having to walk between floors to access target devices by virtualizing their product platform using Virtual Center and ESX.
Faced with increasing automation and scalability requirements, deploying Lab Manager was the logical next step. EFI's rapid adoption of Lab Manager presented some unique hurdles and bottlenecks that EFI had to overcome involving every aspect of virtual infrastructure - servers, storage, and networks. Although Lab Manager required some architectural changes to match the scalability needs, Lab Manager's linked clones, LiveLink, and public API have made it a good tool in boosting EFI's test productivity.
