Session Title:

The Spheres - Using WebSphere with vSphere

Session Abstract:

This session examines many of the capabilities and considerations for using WebSphere Family products with VMware. We will cover new WebSphere product offering specifically for VMware, new performance data using WebSphere with vSphere, and examine the new levels of WebSphere optimization available by combining WebSphere Virtual Enterprise with VMware DRS.
We start with the new WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition - a fully configured and tuned version of WebSphere specifically for VMware. We'll look at the industry standard Open Virtualization Format packaging in conjunction with vSphere support for OVF. We'll also share many of the techniques used in building the image incase you need to build your own. Next, we'll look at how the new WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance works with WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition to simply and securely assist you in creating private WebSphere clouds. We'll show features to quickly extend and customize the IBM provided images and patterns. We'll share vSphere performance data showing repeatable deployments of multi-node WebSphere cells in just minutes.
While on the topic of performance, we'll also look at performance best practices using WebSphere with VMware. We'll share very interesting performance comparisons of consolidation scenarios with and without VMware as well as dive into performance considerations for common over-commit scenarios. ESX 3.5 and vSphere data will be included.
The final section focuses on advanced optimization techniques available by combining WebSphere Virtual Enterprise with VMware. We'll look at how WVE application awareness can provide SLA management of your application with VMware. In addition, we'll look at how DRS can be combined with WVE capabilities. Best practices tips for using these products together will be provided.
