Session Title:

Enterprise Application Performance and Scalability on vSphere

Session Abstract:

VMware ESX is the industry-leading virtualization platform for running the most demanding Enterprise Applications in the Datacenter. At VMware, we are constantly adding new features to improve the performance and scalability of our virtualization layer. vSphere 4 includes enhancements to the storage software layer, networking, and the CPU scheduler, as well as support for new processors.
In this talk, we will describe many of the new enhancements in vSphere 4 and how they improve the performance of various Enterprise Applications. We will include performance data, configuration details and analysis from our "Tier1 Applications" lab where we run Databases, ERP, Mail servers, and Java applications in large configurations using industry-standard workloads. We will also discuss the scalability of these applications in a virtual environment using scale-up and scale-out examples. Our results will cover Windows and Linux virtual machines running on a variety of new processor platforms
Specific applications/workloads we will talk about in this session include
- OLTP Brokerage workload on MS SQLserver 2008
- OLTP Order entry workload on Oracle 11g
- SAP SD benchmark with SAP on DB2
- Loadgen with Exchange 2007
