Session Title: | Creating the Fastest Possible Backups Using VMware Consolidated Backup -A Design Blueprint |
Session Abstract: | As your virtual machine environment grows, it becomes clear that your backup environment needs to scale as well as your ESX server. Configured properly, NetBackup for VMware combined with VMware Consolidated Backup provide an extremely fast and low impact backup and restore technology. NetBackup has recently engineered and benchmarked a NetBackup with VMware Consolidated Backup configuration designed to protect over 10 TB of virtual machine data from a single Backup Proxy. Based on information collected during this benchmark, we will detail a systematic approach to designing, testing, configuring and sizing your VMware Consolidated Backup environment. Topics will include selecting the proper Backup Proxy hardware, accurate methods for benchmarking the Backup Proxy environment, free utilities that can be used to test performance, different deduplication technologies that can be employed plus many hints and tips for configuring NetBackup for VMware for optimal backup and restore performance. We will also discuss how these performance concepts can be applied to the new VMware vStorage APIs for Data Protection. |
