Session Title:

Virtual Infrastructure Orchestration at SAP's Demo Business

Session Abstract:

Large Virtual Infrastructures with hundreds of ESX servers and thousands of Virtual Machines are a challenge for datacenter operations. There is the requirement to monitor and control Virtual Machines already running. But the process of requesting, provisioning and undeploying Virtual Machines can consume much more resources than monitoring and control. Especially Managed Services Providers need efficient and cost effective processes for growing virtualized datacenters, since they are provisioning large numbers of Virtual Machines. Too many manual steps require high numbers of operational resources. Timing is also very cost sensitive: Virtual Machines deployed too late can dissatisfy customers, Virtual Machines running to long after their end of life consume expensive datacenter resources.
The solution is an Orchestration framework which offers easy-to-use frontends for Virtual Machine Requests and flexible interfaces to existing frontends and to other appplications such as business workflow tools and CMDB. VMware vCenter Orchestrator and VMware Lifecycle Manager offer reliable and scalable technical workflow customization and integration which can be successfully applied even to large environments. This session discusses some of the challenges Managed Services Providers are facing with large virtualized environments and how they can benefit from VMware Orchestration solutions.
