Java/Web-tier applications on VMware ESX: Best Practices

Session Abstract:

This talk will contain two parts. This first part will contain guidelines to building a highly scalable web computing platform on VMware Infrastructure. An explanation of VMware's recent world record with industry standard SPECweb2005 benchmark as well as effectiveness in consolidation will be provided. Best practices for widely deployed web serving configurations such as Apache/PHP will be presented.
In the second part of the talk, the Java application server and its key issues in a virtual environment will be presented. This includes key architectural features and their effects in virtual machines and best practices for optimizing performance of the Java system. This guidance derived from our work with customers on getting the best from Java on their virtual platforms.
