Session Title:

VMotion Between Apples and Oranges: Understanding CPU Compatibility Constraints for VMware VMotion

Session Abstract:

VMware VMotion is the migration of a live, running virtual machine from one physical server to another. Since the VMware virtual machine monitor treats the CPU as a pass-through device, the CPUs on the source and destination servers have to be compatible. This session defines and explains CPU compatibility requirements for VMotion and Suspend/Resume. The session will also cover the new hardware and software support developed jointly by VMware and processor vendors that can relax the compatibility constraints in VI 3.5 and future products.
