Session Title:

Eliminating the Proxy: Keeping Backups and DR Green

Session Abstract:

Virtualization has allowed for dramatic savings in energy usage with the reduction of servers, switches, storage enclosures and need for offsetting cooling. Except in the area of backups, where almost all current technologies are require physical hardware based proxies. With a recommended ration of 5 to 1, most environments will experience an up to 20% increase in physical hardware to accommodate backups.
esXpress on the other hand utilizes the Virtual Backup Appliance or VBA. The VBA is a small virtual machine(s), that perform the function of a proxy, but without the costly hardware requirements. Our VBAs are fast, safe, and environmentally friendly, requiring no additional hardware or power requirements.
And because they are virtual machines, VBAs are a completely distributed, fault tolerant solution, with no central point of failure. This presentation will cover both the operational benefits as well as environmental benefits of esXpress.
