Session Title:

Virtualizing the ITIL Enterprise with BMC Software

Session Abstract:

BMC Software is a leading provider of Business Service Management (BSM) related products, which help IT organizations align with ITIL best practices. BMC has well-established physical reference architectures and platform sizing requirements for its BMC Remedy Service Management product portfolio. In this joint effort, BMC and VMWare show how such reference architectures can be mapped onto VMWare Virtualized Infrastructure, thereby producing equivalent virtualized reference architectures. We provide quantitative evidence from our extensive testing, to show that the user perceived impact of virtualization is minimal, and the cost saving and improved manageability is substantial. We also show how additional features of VMWare Virtual Infrastructure can help ensure operational efficiency when executing an ITIL workload. Specifically, we discuss how VMWare High Availability and Distributed Resource Scheduler products can aid in combining the online workload commonly associated with Service Desk and the batch workload associated with the BMC Atrium Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
