Exchange and SQL on ESX Server - Virtualization of Transactional Application WorkloadsPresenter:
Weiss Consult. Can a business run applications such as Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft SQL Server on virtual infrastructure? This session delves into the risks, rewards and best practices of virtualizing the "forbidden" applications. We will discuss such topics as utilizing raw disk mappings, backup and restore, replication and disaster recovery. We will also go over several case studies including using Exchange within a Microsoft Cluster Server environment running on ESX Server, using host-based replication technologies and also array-based layered applications from EMC such as Snapview and SANCopy. We will discuss ways to provide "consistency groups" when employing replication and snapshot technologies so that multi-tiered applications are captured in a consistent state. We will discuss ways to reduce soft-recovery intervals with Exchange and SQL during recovery.
