Virtualizing Oracle

Presenter:

VMware

Many Oracle production databases have not been virtualized, as they are understood to consume much more of a physical server's resources than other applications. While that is often true, there are still many compelling reasons to virtualize the database, especially in the areas of manageability, availability, and security. In addition to virtualizing the Oracle database, many of the applications that support the database's infrastructure, including the management suite (Oracle Enterprise Manager) and the middle-tier solutions can and should be part of the entire solution. Oracle solutions, such as DataGuard for availability, or the Performance and Diagnostic tools of the Enterprise Manager suite, are enhanced when used in combination with a virtual infrastructure. This session will cover some best practices and design considerations when moving your Oracle infrastructure to a virtual environment.
