Evaluating Virtualization Platforms Using VMmarkPresenter:
VMwareVirtualized servers are quickly becoming ubiquitous in the data center. Representative performance metrics can provide great assistance in effectively choosing and configuring the components of the underlying virtualization infrastructure. VMware's VMmark benchmark satisfies this need with a reliable and straightforward tile-based approach for measuring performance and scalability in an enterprise consolidation environment. A series of case studies using VMmark will be presented to demonstrate the utility of the benchmark. The studies will include both high-level virtualization platform measurements and low-level hardware analysis using data collected by VMware as well as its partners. Additionally, the effects of individual workload optimizations within the broader context of a large, multi-VM environment will be measured and discussed. Attendees will learn how to interpret VMmark metrics and use VMmark results to make valid comparisons between varying systems and configurations.
