Session:

VMotion between Apples and Oranges - Understanding CPU Compatibility Constraints

Presenter:

VMware

VMware VMotion is the migration of a live, running virtual machine from one physical server to another. Since the VMware virtual machine monitor treats the CPU as a pass-through device, the CPUs on the source and destination servers have to be compatible. This session defines and explains CPU compatibility requirements for VMotion and Suspend/Resume. The session will also highlight new technologies being developed jointly by VMware and processor vendors that can relax the compatibility constraints in the future.
