Mobile First Responder Computing using VMware Virtual Desktop InfrastructurePresenter:
Kane CountyKane County, a long time user of VMware's Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, has consistently expanded the use of VDI beyond many of the traditional use models. Over the past year, the Kane County IT Department, in supporting the Sheriff Department and 911 center operations, has piloted a model of using VDI to solve many critical issues for public safety first responders. Ensuring that critical computing services are delivered in a secure and stable environment is key to providing emergency services. Kane County developed a VDI-based model to address all these concerns.
Our pilot project results have been very exciting and the model is being accepted by many agencies in Kane County as a replacement for traditional laptop computing. Our presentation will relate how the project was started, the project plan that was followed to develop and deliver the solution, resulting metrics we have studied, and conclude with a demonstration of the system for session attendees to see it in action.
