Session Title:

The Future of Corporate Computing

Presenter:

Panel

Nicholas Carr stirred up the IT world with his book Does IT Matter'? He now has a new book coming out called The Big Switch', where he argues that computing is turning into a utility, with applications and infrastructure supplied as services over the Internet rather than run in private data centers. In this session, Nick will provide a preview of his book and lead what promises to be a lively and fascinating discussion about the future of corporate computing with a panel of industry experts and thought leaders. Is the traditional model of proprietary systems and applications obsolete? How much of a company's IT requirements can really be run from the cloud, and how much needs to be maintained and managed onsite? How fast will the transition to web-based computing proceed? What challenges and opportunities will companies face in the near term as they balance their past investments in IT with the proliferation of new services? How will IT vendors change?
