Chargeback — A Strategic Component for Managing IT Operations EconomicallyPresenter:
ProvmentIt has often been said that "what gets measured gets done." All successful businesses require proper metrics to drive behavior, accountability&reward systems. Indeed, the very idea of capitalism and "the invisible hand" require a currency and desire to accumulate wealth to drive behavior. IT should be no different. Most IT operations are using IT chargeback systems today to drive behavior around business use of IT assets, but the virtualization technologies exploding onto the scene in the last few years give most existing metering and chargeback systems problems. The solution here is a system that accurately and dynamically calculates and tracks the total compute capacity of each physical and virtual machine using a common capacity metric, while also tracking the amount of used capacity over time for each virtual machine and for each application within the virtual machines. This session addresses these issues and describes proven solutions.
