Hands-on Labs

As attendee of VMworld Europe 2008 you have the opportunity to not just visit a great selection of break-out sessions, but also get ‘your hands dirty’ with the hands-on labs. Some of these Labs will be instructor-led, where you first will get an introduction on the specific topic and then be able to do some exercises. The instructor-led labs will last 90 minutes. The self-paces labs will allow you to walk in any time when there is a seat available and you can decide yourself how much time you want to spend on the exercises. For all labs we will have a large team of experts on-hand to assist you with the exercises and answer any of your questions.

VMware Update Manager - Hands-On Lab

In this session delegates will be able to use VMware Update Manager which automates patch and update management for VMware ESX hosts and selected Microsoft and Linux virtual machines.

Update Manager addresses one of the most significant pain points for every IT department: tracking patch levels against a baseline and manually applying the latest security/bug fixes. Patching offline virtual machines is unique to virtual environments and enforces higher levels of compliance to patch standards than physical environments. Integration with DRS ensures zero-downtime VMware ESX host patching capabilities.

Building a Data Center Failover Solution using VMware Site Recovery Manager

VMware Site Recovery Manager is a pioneering product that uses virtualization to provide end-to-end disaster recovery management and automation across your entire data center.

Participants in this lab will gain practical, hands on experience in how to build a complete Data Center Disaster Recovery Solution using VMware VI3 and VMware Site Recovery Manager. You will get a complete understanding in how to setup and configure a multi site recovery plan. You will also perform a complete Data Center failover.

Manage the lifecycle of your VMs

The purpose of this lab is to familiarize with the usage of the new VMware Lifecycle Manager product.

First, we will shortly demonstrate how to install and configure the application, and thereafter, we will jump in a real case scenario.

During this lab session each participant will endorse the roles of requester of a new VM, manager approver, and finally, IT staff to do the final mapping of the VM towards the company's infrastructure.

VMware Guided Consolidation - Hands-On Lab

In this self paced lab, you will get a hands on opportunity to get a grip with Guided Consolidation, and learn how you can quickly and easily expose the physical servers in your environment that are you can be confident of virtualizing. Guided Consolidation lets you do quick and easy capacity planning. Then get an opportunity to import those systems directly into your Virtual Infrastructure using VMware Converter Enterprise. See how you can seamlessly plan and implement, all from the comfort of Virtual Center interfaces.

VMware Consolidated Backup Integration Hands-On Lab

This self-paced lab will allow you to experience backing up VM's through a selection of third party backup vendors. It will step you through the configuration of relevant VCB integration tools, through to actually performing a file-level or Full VM backup. Giving you a hands on experience of VCB integration that you can take back to your datacenter the next day.

Automating VMware with PowerShell: Hands-On Lab

Come see how simple and powerful automating your VMware Virtual Infrastructure can be with the VI Toolkit for Windows.

In this hands-on lab you'll get first-hand experience with VMware's new PowerShell interface. The lab contains an introduction to PowerShell followed by an overview of the toolkit's capabilities. Then you get to try the toolkit for yourself in a highly realistic environment. Choose from over 15 useful, real-world exercises, ranked from Beginner to Advanced, and including full solutions for you to keep.

When you're done you'll be ready to manage your Virtual Infrastructure more efficiently than ever before.

Labmanager Hands-on Lab

VMware Lab Manager provides rapid provisioning and image library management capabilities for VMware Infrastructure 3. In this hands-on lab you will experience the key capabilities of VMware Lab Manager including the setup, capture, storage and sharing of multi-machine system configurations. You will gain a good understanding of how VMware Lab Manager works and learn how it can help your organization achieve additional server consolidation benefits and avoid time-consuming manual provisioning tasks.

VMware VDI - Explore the Benefits of Centralized Desktop Management

This lab will help you to understand how to centralize desktop IT, using VMware VDI. You will get the opportunity to configure a VMware VDI environment based on VMware VI3, VDM 2 and VirtualCenter. This lab is self-paced allowing participants to spend as much time as required to explore and test the different configuration options of the VMware VDM 2 connection broker. Our team of experts will be on-hand, if required, to help guide you through the configurations and associated use cases of VMware VDI. This lab will allow you to experience first hand what is possible with the VMware VDI solution.
