It’s been a great VMworld and once again, our partners have been a huge part of the event’s success. Here’s a quick recap of some announcements, product demonstrations, giveaways and more from several of our VMworld 2012 Diamond and Platinum sponsors.

Dell2012 marked the first year that Wyse and Dell joined forces at VMworld as “a great opportunity for us to spend some quality time with our customers.” Dell Wyse customers descended on the show. Dell Cloud Client Computing launched the public beta of Project Stratus. And, the annual VMworld CEO Roundtable earned a standing ovation thanks in part to Michael Dell.

EMC – Everything EMC at VMworld US, and soon VMworld Europe, is available to you in this community. Content is current because it was designed for you – someone  interested in chatting, connecting, commenting, posting documents and asking questions about their VMware infrastructure. vSpecialists monitor the site and update information daily. Be sure to bookmark this community site.

NetApp – You won’t want to leave VMworld without the NetApp VSA. “This is the real-deal, the actual NetApp VSA that you can purchase from NetApp! It includes evaluation licenses which can upgraded to production licenses at any time…” says the Virtual Storage Guy. He then offers five ways to ensure you receive a USB stick with the NetApp Data ONTAP Edge VSA and URLs to register, and download OnCommand Systems Manager and the Virtual Storage Console plug-in for VMware vCenter Server, while attending VMworld. Don’t miss out.

Symantec – Approximately “100 points of integration to date.” That’s how Symantec and VMware have teamed up to help businesses make the transition to virtualization as smooth as possible. Whether an organization is replacing legacy technologies or adapting them to virtualization, Symantec and VMware offer “integration with purpose.” A few examples of how customers are relying on Symantec integration with VMware include Carrington Holding Company and University Hospitals of Leuven, which have leveraged Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 to proactively protect information in both physical and virtual environments. In addition, Continuum Health Partners and Sydney Adventist Hospital have greatly increased backup and recovery capabilities with Symantec Netbackup. Details are in this press release or stop by booth #909.

VCE – In this year’s Solution Exchange, VCE is showing off a Management and Orchestration pod that includes technologies from VMware, Cisco and EMC to help customers successfully deliver cloud computing to their tenants. And if you think some of the solutions overlap, think again. VCE is showcasing the solutions in such a way that it doesn’t duplicate functionalities. Check it out and let VCE know what you think at the VM Trooper Headquarters.

Here's the VMware news from around the VMworld San Francisco campus, Tuesday Day 2

Today Steve Herrod kicked off General Session beating the drums with LiveLab. We then got our first look at VMware Horizon™ Suite, our integrated platform for the mobile, multi-device workspace. Next, we held our first VMworld Challenge with global diamond sponsors Cisco, Dell, EMC, HP and NetApp competing for attendee votes with 4-minute demos of their product/solution. NetApp won the challenge, and their chosen non-profit “Be the Match” will receive $10,000 from VMware.

VMworld 2012 is rocking San Francisco this week.

Sunday opened with the Welcome Reception in a packed Solutions Exchange exhibit hall. Our exhibitors were out in force, and didn't fail to pass out the chotchkies with an abundance of t-shirts.

Monday's keynote in the general session was jam-packed with customers, partners, press, analysts and bloggers. Over 20,000 attendees gave Paul Maritz a standing ovation as he formally transitioned to Pat Gelsinger the leadership of VMware. Pat announced the vCloud Suite, the industry’s first, integrated, most comprehensive offering delivering on the software defined datacenter, and Cloud Ops, the new operating model for the cloud era.

After the general session, people migrated over to the Hang Space to listen to the #vBrownBag Tech Talks and theCUBE interviews, and to watch the social media stream on the big board.

We are gearing up for a great day tomorrow, where the general session will focus on end user computing and will be streamed live.

It's Sunday evening and the Labs are open with 550 seats.

It really looks impressive in here, as each of the terminals has dual head displays. There are over 36 labs and there's currently no lines, no waiting. It took a little while to get all the labs up and running, but fortunately they're all up and ready for the full four-day event.

Look for our continuing lab coverage as we report stats, photos and interviews from the lab team.

Join your fellow VMworld attendees in a special bike ride and fun run on Wednesday, August 29 at Crissy Field (just steps from the world famous Golden Gate Bridge). You will enjoy a nice 5k run/walk taking in the sights of the San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz and historic Fort Point.

You will start the day meeting everyone at 5:00am, yes that is really early, in front of Moscone West and be shuttled to the starting point. From there the groups will head out and be returned to Moscone West by 8:00am, with time to shower and prepare for VMworld.

This is a great opportunity for you to meet some colleagues and network while getting the education and all that VMworld has to offer.

There is a cost associated with the Fun Run to cover basic costs, but a portion of the fee will be donated to Save the Bay; an organization dedicated to the preservation, protection and enrichment of the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento/San Joaquin Estuary.

Visit the sign-up page for more information and we look forward to seeing you on the roads.
