Join your fellow VMworld attendees in a special bike ride and fun run on Wednesday, August 29 at Crissy Field (just steps from the world famous Golden Gate Bridge). You will enjoy a nice 5k run/walk taking in the sights of the San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz and historic Fort Point.

You will start the day meeting everyone at 5:00am, yes that is really early, in front of Moscone West and be shuttled to the starting point. From there the groups will head out and be returned to Moscone West by 8:00am, with time to shower and prepare for VMworld.

This is a great opportunity for you to meet some colleagues and network while getting the education and all that VMworld has to offer.

There is a cost associated with the Fun Run to cover basic costs, but a portion of the fee will be donated to Save the Bay; an organization dedicated to the preservation, protection and enrichment of the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento/San Joaquin Estuary.

Visit the sign-up page for more information and we look forward to seeing you on the roads.

In conjunction with VMware, TechTarget Inc. will be hosting the third annual Best of VMworld Europe Awards. Building on the success of last two years, these awards will once again recognise the most innovative and distinguished uses of VMware virtualisation and its ecosystem of products.

Given European customers’ sophistication with virtualisation technologies and deployments, these awards will identify truly leading-edge examples of virtualisation use cases.

Take this exclusive opportunity to give your IT project the recognition it deserves by filling out our online submission form. Also, be sure to read the awards criteria and information before submitting your entry.

The selection process is conducted by a team of expert judges in 5 core categories which include:
· Best virtualisation and server consolidation project
· Best virtualisation for disaster recovery project
· Best remote-office/home-office deployment project
· Best private cloud project
· Best desktop virtualisation project
· Also, one Best of show winner will be chosen based on the winning entries for the categories above.

Please do not enter yourself into this category as the Best of Show winner is picked by the judges from the existing entries.
Award winners will be announced live during the VMworld 2012 Europe show, on 9-11 October in Barcelona, and their case studies will be featured on SearchVirtualDataCentre.co.UK, a site devoted to data centres and virtualisation.

The deadline for submission is Friday, 7 September, so we strongly encourage you to submit your entry today while you have this email open.

If you are registered for VMworld Europe, view a full listing of sessions, organize your days, and log-in to your VMworld account to sign-up for the sessions you want to attend. Most sessions will be repeated at least once and we will be adding additional sessions based on popularity, so if it is full, check back.

If you are not yet registered, what are you waiting for? Register now and build your schedule to master the new cloud landscape.

During VMworld, you will be able to add a session to your schedule up to an hour prior to the start. Session rooms will open approximately 25 minutes to 3 minutes before the start of a session. Only attendees who have pre-registered for the breakout session will be allowed in the room. There will not be a stand-by line, so please make sure to register for the sessions you plan on attending.

Spotlight Sessions provide an opportunity to hear about VMware and partners solutions and technologies.

VMware Spotlight Sessions take place on Monday, August 27 in the LAM Research Theater.

SS1022 – From Ideas to Reality - A Closer Look Inside VMware Innovation
10:30am – 11:30am
Numerous companies talk about how innovative they are, but what is really happening behind the scenes to ensure they continue to introduce new and disruptive technologies to their customers and partners?  Join Julia Austin, VP of Innovation at VMware, and some of VMware's top engineers to learn more about the innovation programs and practices in place at VMware that bring revolutionary ideas to the market. You will hear about the history of some of VMware's top features and products, early-stage technology ideas incubating inside of the company, as well as VMware's Open Innovation Challenge.

SS1021 – Solutions for Automating IT in the Small-to-Midsize Business
1:00pm – 2:00pm
One of the biggest differences in IT between Small-to-Midsize Businesses (SMB) and Large Enterprises, is simply the amount of IT resources available.  VMware is committed to bringing quality innovation to the SMB market, to provide the enterprise-class solutions it is known for, in a format that works well for smaller IT shops.  This session will cover current and future solutions for helping manage and automate IT functions, setting up Disaster Recovery solutions, and ensuring business continuity.

SS1020 – Managing the Realities of a Multi-Platform, Multi-Cloud World
2:30pm – 3:30pm
One of the core attractions of cloud computing is flexibility and choice. With more options than ever for sourcing infrastructure services or hosting applications, the role of IT is evolving to become a broker of services. Customers are looking for cloud operations solutions that leverage existing investments in their heterogeneous datacenter while enjoying the benefits of public cloud services. This session will provide an overview of VMware's simplified approach to cloud operations, and how it enables policy-based, automated provisioning and management of services across VMware-, Amazon- and Microsoft-based clouds. Come hear how VMware can help transform chaos into a cohesive, integrated environment across clouds.

Then don’t miss over 15 Partner Spotlight Sessions running Tuesday and Wednesday.
