VMworld 2010 Fun Run

Posted by VMworld Team on Jul 30, 2010 10:03:00 AM

The VMworld 2010 Fun Run is on! It will take place on Sunday, August 29 at 5:00 p.m. starting at Crissy Field in San Francisco. All registered VMworld attendees and their spouses are invited!

It doesn't matter whether you run every day or don't run at all. The relatively flat course takes you along the beautiful San Francisco Bay with a full view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin Headlands.

No need to bring a camera, VMware's very own Luke Kilpatrick will be photograping the event. Come to have a great time and get over your jet lag before VMworld kicks off.

The important information:

What: 5k out-and-back course
When: Sunday, August 29th at 5:00 p.m.
Where: Crissy Field, San Francisco
Who: VMworld 2010 attendees and spouses
How: Registration and further information to come out next week.

Stay tuned for more information; until then, enjoy the view from Crissy field:

Looking forward to another good run.  Last year was a blast -- and I'm not even a big runner.  Even if you just want to show up and cheer on the others, sign up and come on down to join the fun.

Can't wait! I hope to see most - if not all - all of the VMware Education Services people out on the course!

Done! - see you all there

Is race day registration allowed?  I am worried about my flight being late.
Aug 8, 2010 11:06 PM Matt Lorimer Matt Lorimer    says:

For anybody debating on this one, it is a must attend.  Last year's event was awesome.  Networking opportunities are great, view is spectacular (even with new course) and it helps to burn off some of the extra calories consumed while traveling.

Thanks for getting this run together.  I will definitely be there.

Aug 9, 2010 6:25 AM Aaron Stubenazy Aaron Stubenazy    says in response to Matt Lorimer:

Can someone post the "new course" for us?  The path could be difficult to follow with all of the trails there.  Any opportunity to learn the course ahead of time would be helpful.

Aug 9, 2010 7:56 AM DougBaer DougBaer    says in response to Aaron Stubenazy:
Agreed.  It would be nice to get to know the path so I don't get lost ... and knowing what kind of terrain to expect would be helpful as well.  Are we talking pavement, grass, sand, wood, gravel?
Aug 9, 2010 8:32 AM Aaron Stubenazy Aaron Stubenazy    says in response to DougBaer:
As I recall from last year it was mostly concrete but there were some sections that were cinder and some black top.  A little dirt but not sure if it was the official course or not.  The bridge was awesome.  If you wear a hat make sure its on tight...the wind was enough to whip my hat off.
Aug 9, 2010 10:01 AM Craig Williams Craig Williams    says in response to Aaron Stubenazy:
The exact course details will be emailed to every registered runner. For those that ran it last year, they can vouch for me that if I tell you that you WILL NOT get lost, then I mean it. This year we have a completely different course. It is a straight out and straight back. If you make a turn or run past the turnaround you will be swimming - the water is cold. The course is completly flat. The surface is half packed dirt and half asphalt - very wide path. This is probably one of the most famous routes in the city and you will be part of San Francisco history at the turnaround location.

Any word on pickup locations from the Moscone Center and times?
Aug 23, 2010 1:10 PM Craig Williams Craig Williams    says:

Hi all,

Here is a do it yourself running route for those wanting to experience SF. This is not the same route as the VMworld Fun Run - though there is overlap near the Golden Gate Bridge.

From your location (hotel, VMworldMoscone, or other) get to Market Street or Mission Street. Head east towards the Bay. You will know you have reached the Bay because you will have to cross The Embarcadero, you will see the Ferry Building, or your feet are wet.

From the Ferry Building  head north along the sidewalk (you will see LOTS of other runners and walkers). In 5.5 miles you will reach the Golden Gate Bridge (round trip 11 miles). You can of course turn around at any point along the way to shorten the run.

Here is a mapping of the route from the Ferry Building:

Craig, it has been a nice run! Thanks for organizing it! When will the pics Be available?
Sep 1, 2010 11:49 AM Craig Williams Craig Williams    says in response to gernot.groder:
I will send a message to all when the pictures have been posted. It is going to take a little bit of time since the photographers are busy with "stuff" at VMworld.
Sep 1, 2010 11:52 AM Craig Williams Craig Williams    says in response to Jessy Lu:
I understand why it appears as a secret. We needed people to go through the registration process so that they would sign the waiver. The registration site on Active.com listed all the details. Also once you registered, you would have received an assortment of communications including the final instructions.
