ESX versus XEN

Posted by Jonathan Summers Sep 15, 2008

I am looking for some factual based evidence and details as to what the differences are between Xen and ESX. Folks want numbers and features that help drive home the cause for VMware.

is there whitepapers or anything updated here that will help management understand how Vmware is a mature solution that beats ESX?

I am wondering how many people face Cloud from Amazon or the Xen competition. Even better yet is how they overcome and sell anyway?

I missed any sessions thus far that talk about how to leverage the assets of ESX over XEN but there is still 2 days left.

I had attended the Cloud session but it failed to mention Amazon and its compute cloud services. In talking with Platespin they seem able to convert VMware virtual machines into XEN machines and XEN machines into VMware virtual machines. That would facilitate and allow more options when needed. We have a project today where we need the services Amazon can offer. The selling point is low cost services that allow us to run a complex search cluster without the need to duplicate our 700 physical machines we use in our data center.
